Happy Tails 2009-2010

Angus and Family To say the DASH Rescue, NY is a wonderful agency would be completely underselling it as an organization, and certainly wouldn’t be giving enough credit to the staff and volunteers involved in the process of adopting our year-old Puggle, Angus.

Our experience began as any other adoption would – with the obligatory application, reference and home visit approvals, and we were extremely pleased that we qualified to rescue a dog. We preferred a young male Puggle, which are somewhat rare finds in the world of rescue processing, so we were prepared to wait while DASH combed their network to fulfill our request.

When our DASH contact, Linda Fadden, called to say we had only hours to rescue a young male Puggle from euthanization in Ohio, we jumped at the opportunity to save this animal. A myriad of complications followed, as this dog became entangled in a processing and transfer glitch on the Ohio end of the procedure (through no fault of DASH), and he also became very ill while temporarily housed in a kennel. DASH kept us informed of every detail along the way, and worked very hard to find out exactly what was delaying delivery of this dog from Ohio to Syracuse.

When DASH finally found out the details of what was going on, the news was not good – we had indeed saved this dog, but in the process of preparing him for transfer through this kennel, a foster host and vet, his initial kennel cough developed into pneumonia, and the DASH staff learned he actually might not survive much longer. Short of traveling to Ohio to personally inquire about this dog, our DASH representative Linda , Lois & Rachel worked very hard to find out the details, and kept us informed of all they could find out along the way. We finally decided, with Linda’s experienced advisement and assistance, that we could no longer emotionally, or financially, pursue this particular dog. However, Linda and DASH were absolutely prepared to go the extra mile for us if we had decided we wanted to continue our pursuit.

Linda was now as emotionally invested in our case as we were, and she was even more determined to help us. After deciding to pass on the first dog, we had prepared for a worst-case scenario, and had a list of other dogs we might pursue in case we did have to take that pass. Upon that decision, we submitted listings of other dogs DASH might help us pursue, and said they would do what they could to make sure our unique first attempt wouldn’t happen again.

We made that decision to pass on the first dog on a Friday. Three days later, the following Monday morning, we received an excited phone call from Linda, who was returning from Sandusky, Ohio, with a young male Puggle for us. Linda & Lois worked on our request list behind the scenes, and unbeknownst to us, Linda drove over night to Sandusky, which is seven hours from Syracuse! She returned Monday afternoon, and after spending all night and day driving to and from Ohio with no sleep, wanted to introduce us to our new dog at her foster host home in Fulton. Simply put – AMAZING!

We can not thank Linda enough - nor can we give nearly enough credit for the dedication Linda and the DASH organization showed us and our rescued Puggle, Angus. Not only do they provide a wonderful service for the rescue of animals, but they treat their clients (both human and four-legged) with respect and care. Ours was a special case that ended up needing unique attention, but DASH will pay special attention to every case and client, no matter the hurdle(s) in the process.

We wish Linda and DASH all the best in continuing their unheralded and heroic work, and we know all their clients will be as happy and satisfied as we are with both their service as an organization, and the resulting acquisition of an animal you have saved, providing a comfortable, safe and loving home.

Good luck – and many happy days together with your rescue animal!

- Kate, Keith – and Angus!

Gracie Gracie's Story, We had seen her along with her daughters from a litter before. I felt so sorry for her beacuse she was soo pregant and stuck behind bars at the shelter with nothing to make her feel more comfortable and due any day. We were able to get her Sprung and in to a Foster Home before she gave birth. We could see that she was a Dachshund Beagle mix but had no Idea who the Father was. There was 9 puppies in all but but sadley 1 did not make it. DASH tooke Gracie, her 8 puppies and her 2 older ones in and Found each and every one of them a Furever Home. I have added a Letter that we have recieved from the New Mom of Gracie that I would Like to share with you

October 26, 2009
Dear Members of DASH Rescue,

We have had such a positive experience working with your organization that I felt the need to write a letter of gratitude and appreciation! My husband and I both grew up with pets in our homes and wanted to provide the same loving experience for our daughters. We were searching the Petfinder website when we came across the most wonderful description of our future pet, Gracie! The detailed and loving description provided by her foster family, the Faddens, drew us to her immediately. I contacted Linda Fadden right away and she was absolutely wonderful in leading me through the process. The Faddens even allowed us to come and visit Gracie before starting the whole application process to make sure she was a good match for our young children. It was love at first sight! Linda and her husband Ed took the time to explain the whole rescue process to us and answered our numerous questions. They provided us with helpful tips regarding nutrition, nail care, training, and healthy toys for our new pet. We felt instantly comfortable with the Faddens and truly appreciated their help and guidance. EVERY one of our references contacted us later and had wonderful things to say about their conversation with Linda! Your organization provides a comfortable atmosphere for future pet owners and really does a great service for the fortunate (and can I say, blessed!) dogs you are rescuing! You have a valuable resource in the Fadden family and we are very appreciative of the opportunity to have worked with them!

With deep gratitude
